My Day Off

For some people, a day off means getting to wake up late and breakfast in bed. It can mean a couple of days out of town. Some days I get the first but it sure has been a while since I had the 2nd.

With my hours upside down, a day off for me meas run errand time. It also means make sure I hang out with the kids. I desperately try not to fall asleep if the sun is down as that will screw up my body clock is one of the toughest parts.Sun goes down, the night grows cooler and next thing I know, it's a beautiful morning.

Yesterday was  no different. I had very specific errands to run. With school coming up, shopping entered the top of the agenda. I had to make sure we bought all the school supplies. My older two thankfully are at an age to select their own stuff, so I handed them half a list each and had them on a scavenger hunt of a sort. Goal was to get done as fast as possible. Took an hour to finish with the crowds and the kids not familiar with the store's layout.

Shoe shopping was next. My daughter found a pair she wanted. Each boy the turned up with a pair of sneakers they both wanted. My youngest could use his choice for school so I got em. My other son choose these extremely bright neon green rubber shoes that really hurt my eyes. They also cost the earth! I had to tell him we'd have to come back for them once we go all the necessities out of the way.  Sweetheart that he is, he aid he understood though I knew he wanted to really ask for them. I bet end of the month I'll find myself buying them. He so rarely asks for anything so it isn't a hard decision.

After all that shopping we were naturally very hungry. I took the kids to eat at French Baker where we enjoyed clam chowder in a bread bowl, nachos and a german frank with rootbeer floats and iced tea. Talk  about heavy!

With all the family tasks out of the way, it was now time for me to spend on me. I finally got around to having my hair colored again. I decided to put in highlights. I had no idea what it would entail but the stylist suggested it. So I sat while they did the usual coloring. Then they bring out this rubber cap which looked like a cross between a condom and a floppy hat. The attendant pours baby powder in it, the excess of which he pats onto his cheeks. They also put a little powder on my hair. They then stretch the cap over my head, covering my eyes so I ha no idea what they were using at that point. Next thing I knew, the hairs on my body were all standing. I had this ticklish almost "hair on end" sensation as they appeared to pull bit of my hair through tiny holes in the cap with what felt like a crochet hook. It was the weirdest feeling!!!

When they were all done, I was totally worn out and waited 30 min for  a cab. It still beat walking so no biggie, I just find it nutty the way cab drivers line up at the taxi line then select a passenger based on destination. Too bad we don't have LTO enforcers for cab driver who can revoke the right to operate of those taxi's that don't do what they are supposed to - take passengers to any point within Luzon.

That was one very full day off after a long day at work so bed time came quickly. I didn't care that ere was no sun ad I had to stay awake at that point.
